Marc de Côte-Rôtie 2000
IG Eau-de-vie de Marc des Côtes-du-Rhône
Alcool : 42°%
After a bleak start to the year owing to frosts in spring, the 1998 vintage was saved by an exceptionally long and warm summer in the Rhône Valley. This resulted in wines with powerful tannins and excellent ageing potential in the Côte-Rôtie.
This Eau-de-vie is made from the distillation of our Côte-Rôtie marcs (100% Syrah) from the 1998 vintage in our traditional alembic column still which is made entirely from copper.
It was then aged in 228-litre French oak barrels for 20 years. This ageing process has allowed it to develop a brown colour with burnt orange tints over the years.
The nose opens up with aromas of tonka bean, musk and vanilla which evolve over time towards more earthy and smoky notes.
The palate is elegant with a soft, smooth attack. The bouquet reveals roasted notes intertwined with caramelised apples, dried herbs and gentian root.
The progressive evaporation of alcohol over the years (known as the ‘angels’ share’) has brought the natural alcohol by volume down to 42 degrees.
