Terroir of Hermitage
In the vineyard
15 July 2024

Did you know that the Hermitage Hill hides a treasure… with the exceptional diversity of its soils.
For M. CHAPOUTIER, wine is inseparable from the notions of Terroirs, and more precisely, getting expression from those Terroirs. What’s special about Hermitage Hill is that it features several different Terroirs. It is a complex mosaic of soils, and, in very practical terms, the geological links between the Alps, the Massif Central and the Rhône river.
Being aware of this important asset, Michel Chapoutier wanted to separate out the grapes grown in these Terroirs with such expressive geological features. This is the very essence of the Sélections Parcellaires.
The Terroir expresses itself without hindrance. It recounts the characteristics of its soils, its climate which creates the vintage, and the know-how of man.
Here, biodynamic growing really comes into its own.
