The 2010 Ermitage l’Ermite Blanc, which comes from pure granite soils, is a perfect wine. This awesome white, made from pre-phylloxera vines that are not grafted onto American root stocks, offers notes of acacia flowers, orange and nectarine oils, a liquid rock-like component and a full-bodied, multidimensional and multilayered finish. As the great French wine critic Michel Bettane said about l’Ermite in many different vintages, it is “greater than the greatest Montrachet.” This is a 50- to 75-year white wine.
Robert Parker 98+
The rigorous, more austere 2011 Ermitage l’Ermite Blanc boasts an amazing terroir character with a backward style. A masterpiece in the making, it displays crystalline purity along with extraordinary notes of acacia flowers, quince, honey, wet rocks and candle wax. This amazing, full-bodied, concentrated white is the essence of a single vineyard as well as of Marsanne.
Jeb Dunuck (The Rhone Report): 100
Possessing slightly more golden fruits than the De L'Orée, with additional notions of toast, orange rind, sautéed peaches, mineral, and a hint of petrol, the 2010 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Blanc l'Ermite is every bit as rich and impressive as its sibling. A blend of 100% Marsanne that comes from the estate’s oldest vines and from the pure granite soils located near the top Hermitage hill, it offers up spectacular richness and depth to go with a full-bodied, voluptuous, yet laser focused mouth feel, no weight, and a brilliantly detailed, energetic finish. It is drop dead gorgeous now, so do not be afraid to open bottles (it benefits from air). Nevertheless, given the overall concentration, freshness, and purity, it will most likely outlive me.

100. At the very top of the appellation?s dome of decomposed granite is l?Ermite. This wine is the equivalent of drinking liquified rocks. The 2006 Ermitage l?Ermite blanc is pure perfection. A liqueur of licorice, crushed rocks, white citrus, and currants jumps from the glass, and in the mouth, the wine is one seamless, layered mouthful of citrus oil, white flowers, white peach, and honeysuckle. Just amazing. I am sure both of these vintages will live for 50-100+ years.

95. At the very top of the appellation?s dome of decomposed granite is l?Ermite. This wine is the equivalent of drinking liquified rocks. The 2005 Ermitage l?Ermite blanc has that multi-layered mouthfeel, an extraordinary nose of intense minerality, quince, and white fruits. Some of the vines in this parcel are 130 years old, and the wine has over-the-top richness yet amazing acidity, depth, and a freshness that is hard to believe given its power and intensity.

Wine Advocate #156 (Dec 2004)
99-100/100. The mind-boggling 2003 Ermitage l’Ermite blanc (75 cases produced from 100-year old Marsanne vines) is prodigious. I am at a loss to describe such an amazing effort. It represents the essence of lychee nuts, orange marmalade, citrus oil, and crushed stones. This white Hermitage cuvee is off the charts. It tips the scales between 14.5-16.1% alcohol, and is a candidate for perfection. This white will be bottled without fining or filtration.
