Fresh, floral and slightly tropical, with background nuttiness, the 2012 M. Chapoutier Côtes du Rhône Belleruche Blanc is light bodied, juicy, and clean on the palate, with plenty of acidity emerging on the finish. Value priced and well made, it should be enjoyed over the coming year or two.

89. Probably the best white Cotes du Rhone he has ever produced in my experience is the 2006 Cotes du Rhone Belleruche, a blend of Marsanne, Bourboulenc, and Grenache blanc. Gloriously ripe but restrained notes of apricot, peach, and mineral jump from the glass of this deliciously fruity, clean, medium-bodied wine, bursting at the seams with personality and character. It should be food-friendly and best drunk over its first several years of life.

The impressive 2001 Cotes du Rhone Belleruche is the finest white Cotes du Rhone Chapoutier has yet produced. A blend of Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, and Bourboulenc, it is completely tank-fermented and aged, but there was considerable lees stirring to build more texture. The 2001 offers up wonderful honeyed citrus aromas with hints of peaches, apricots, and oranges in the background. Medium-bodied, with loads of fruit as well as a surprisingly long finish, it is a tasty Cotes du Rhone to enjoy over the next 1-2 years.

It's hard to call a wine sophisticated when it's as straightforward as the Chapoutier 1998 "Belleruche" Côtes du Rhône, but this is a wine that perfectly delivers on its relatively simple mission. It's a dry, clean, and round, with a mild resinated, menthol-like note, and it grows on you. A subtle, but substancial, mouthful of white wine blended from such less familiar grapes as white grenache, marsanne, and, bourboulenc.

White grenache, marsanne and bourboulenc grapes comprise the Belleruche 1998, Côtes du Rhône blanc from M.Chapoutier.
