The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois, which comes from the Bedarrides sector of Chateauneuf du Pape, reveals flamboyant aromas of licorice, Christmas fruitcake, loamy soil, black cherries, black currants and raspberries. This spicy, peppery, earthy, exotic, full-bodied, super-rich 2010 is slightly more structured than the superb 2009. It begs for several years of cellaring, and should drink well for 15 or more.

2011hateauneuf-Du-Pape Croix De Bois Bright ruby. High-pitched red berry and floral aromas
show very good intensity and a sexy spicecake nuance. Juicy, penetrating and seamless, offering
vibrant raspberry and cherry flavors lifted by tangy acidity. Finishes lively and long, with resonating
spiciness.

Vivid ruby. A heady, seductive bouquet evokes black raspberry and cherry liqueur, potpourri and allspice, with a bright mineral overtone. Shows impressive clarity and energy, offering penetrating dark berry and floral pastille flavors that gain weight
with air. Spreads out on the finish, which features soft tannins and a whiplash of sweet dark fruit. This wine was raised entirely in concrete.
Wine Spectator - Mai 2011
Robert Parker 92-95
The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de
Bois displays more pepper, wet stone,
licorice, foresty and earthy
characteristics accompanied by sweet
black currant and black raspberry fruit.
Full-bodied and rich, it plays it tighter
to the vest than the more open-knit
2009. It should drink well for 15+ years.

90-93. The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois shows intense cedary incense and Provencal herb notes mixed with ground pepper in a sexy, hedonistic style with plump, full-bodied, soft black cherry fruit, licorice, and spice. It is a very aromatic style without the density and weight of its sibling in 2005, but it is gorgeously pure and very seductive. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.
Wine Advocate # 173 Octobre 2007
95. The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois is brilliant. Notes of licorice, seaweed, cedar, and copious black currant and sweet cherry notes are present in the provocative aromatics. Ripe, full-bodied, and dense, with moderately high tannin, terrific concentration, and a deep ruby color, this is a brilliant wine that tips the scales at 16.5% natural alcohol, whereas the 2006 was at 15.3%. Look for the 2005 to hit its peak in 2-3 years and last for 15 or more years.

92-94/100. Pepper, garrigue, and herbes de Provence characteristics, along with kirsch, iodine, seaweed, and black cherry notes can be found in the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois (produced from an 80-year old vineyard in the eastern sector known as La Crau, not far from the renowned vineyards of Font de Michelle). It should drink well for 10-15 years. This wine, aged in demi-muids and foudre, will be bottled with no fining or filtration.

It reveals less glycerin, body, and tannin, being more fruit-dominated, with notes of licorice, kirsch liqueur, pepper, and spice. Dense, with a multi-layered texture, and a full-bodied, concentrated finish, it may develop the earthy spiciness of the 1998, but at present it is dominated by its kirsch liqueur and jammy red and black fruits. It, too, will age for at least two decades.

100 % Grenache. More oak. Gentle ripe fruit. Quite fresh and stylish. But lacks a bit of grip. Better than the Barbe Rac though. 2003-2010.

1998 Châteauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois (from a single, owned vineyard of 80-year-old grenache vines planted on Sand, clay and silt Soil underlain by quartz pebbles; aise 15+ % alcohol) : Full, deep red. Fresh, sappy aromas of framboise and smoke. Smooth and velvety, with impressive concentration and power. Gives an impression of stronger acidity, and today the tannins are rather edgy, even a bit tough. Peppery on the finish. This may be in an awkward stage today, but its power, structure and length suggest it will be in the same high class as the Barbe-Rac. 91-94.
Clives COATES (THE VINE / UK) July 2000
This is much more typé though also 100 % Grenache. This has grip and depth. Plenty of size and follow-through. Shows rather well. 2003-2010.
Robert M. PARKER Jr (THE WINE ADVOCATE / USA) Octobre 2000
It emerges from a vineyard situated in the Bédarrides section of the appellation, and a profound effort offering classic Châteauneuf du Pape characteristics. The dark plum/ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of new saddle leather, balsam wood, garrigue (that mélange of Provençal herbs and earth), pepper, and sweet, nearly overripe black cherries and plums. Full-bodied, rich, and chewy, wit low acidity, high glycerin, and moderately high tannin, this sumptuous, mouthfilling Châteauneuf du Pape can be drunk now, but promises to age well for two decades.
